HOW DID YOU END UP WALKING DOWN THE HOLISTIC HEALTH PATH?
My journey toward holistic health began back in late 2004. With the breakdown of my 12 year marriage I had what I would call a meltdown......Two years earlier I had met a holistic therapist in a kickboxing class and enjoyed chatting with him. I had tucked his card into my gym bag and never gave it a second thought until my meltdown…I found my gym bag and the business card which was still safely tucked away in a side pocket…Things that make you go hmmmmm….
This holistic therapist helped me in so many ways to cope with the pain and the feelings associated with it but a stubborn haze surrounded me that I couldn’t seem to dispel. I was stuck. I lived my life robotically and though I may not have realized it at the time I believe I needed another way out. My wake up call came in the form of a double disc herniation in my lower back. Chronic pain can certainly change one’s perspective on life. I attempted to cope with my injury and the pain by way of traditional western medicine. I had x-rays and MRIs to confirm the injury and began a steady diet of pain killers and other assorted pills to counter the side effects of the first pills. The only thing the medication appeared to be doing was helping dull the pain. What I really wanted was a cure. I visited a surgeon and was thankfully told that my condition was not serious enough to consider surgery. I had come to a dead end so I asked my holistic therapist for more help.
He referred me, in turn, to a chiropractor who helped alleviate the immediate pain, to two osteopaths whose gentle manipulations, exercise regimes and encouragement were and still are of tremendous value, to a naturopath, who I adore and still see regularly, who helped enormously with natural remedies and suggestions of books on natural healing and meditation and my introduction to quantum medicine, and finally to an acupuncturist and a massage therapist to help with pain management and to ease tension. Through their caring ministration I was able to wean myself off of the plethora of pills and began to feel like myself again..well, sort of…because, as some others may have experienced, where one pain ends another sometimes begins…
Through my contact with so many natural healers, I learned about NHC and my curiosity led me to an open house…. It was then my desire to learn more about holistic health became a passion. …My healing journey began and with it, a wish to rid myself of any and all forms of lingering pain and to perhaps one day be able to share my knowledge to help others in need.
