Health, Environment & Sustainability

Drawing upon both scientific and indigenous traditional ecological knowledge, this course looks at how the earth’s ecosystems and the local flora and fauna (including humans) are organized and interdependent. From plants to animals and humans, students observe the earth’s natural cycles and how they impact and enrich us. They also study how humans have transformed the world through agricultural practices, the exploitation of natural resources, and political philosophies that ignore and downplay the importance of the environment. In addition, students learn to cope with environmental toxicity by employing various avoidance strategies, understanding the political and regulatory framework that affects overall environmental health, and boosting our health using ecologically harmonious methods.
