Fiction: It just treats everything with some herbal remedy.

Fact: Although herbal medicine is sometimes recommended, this holistic therapy is founded in proper nutrition and a healthy approach to life. Even conventional medicine thinks that’s sensible!

Naturopaths are like the GPs of holistic medicine. Their customized care can really be divided into 3 principles of supportive healing. The process starts with a healthy lifestyle. To this end, the naturopath recommends a sound diet consisting of natural, unprocessed, whole foods, and plenty of water. The client is also advised to take up regular exercise, conscientious self-care and to minimize negative attitudes.

Secondly, a naturopath endorses good sleeping habits and abstinence from chemical substances and over-stimulation.

Thirdly, following the Hippocratic vis medicatrix naturae principle, a naturopath embraces the healing power of nature and imitates its behaviour during the body’s upheavals, such as fevers or eczema. Instead of suppressing the symptoms, naturopathy allows the body to express itself. This approach not only cleanses the body, it strengthens the client’s vitality.

To facilitate healing, a naturopath takes a client through an elaborate therapeutic process. A client’s health is assessed by looking at all aspects of their lives, including stress, relationships, trust issues, their sense of responsibility, and their ability to work through emotions. As a result, the practitioner and the client both gain a more detailed perspective on the ailment. Clients also acquire tools to heal themselves more effectively, and to prevent future illness.
